I learned at an early age that words have power – power to entertain, to enthrall, to motivate, to dissuade, to raise spirits and to dash hopes, to quell riots and to incite them. They also had the power to get me kicked out of my high school English and History classes but that’s another story for another day. Lawyers are well acquainted with the power of words. Words are the atomic building blocks of our legal system.
I started this blog for both personal and professional reasons at the urging of a friend. Personal because my lifelong interest needed an outlet. Professional because, as a soon to be lawyer, I find the legal problems caused by words are endless and facinating.
The title derives from the title of a law review article, Zechariah Chafee’s The Disorderly Conduct of Words, 41 Colum. L. Rev. 381 (1941), intended as an homage to a great and fascinating legal mind. More on that and related subjects coming soon. Come back early and often!
